    Garnier \ Paris 2008

    by Nathan White

    regular price$690.00 sale price

“Garnier” is work based on a photo taken in 2008 of the southern flytower of the Opera Garnier in Paris and colour manipulated into a soft bronze, almost nude, monotone finish.  Opera Garnier was designed by architect Charles Garnier in what he coined as the Napoleon III Style and was constructed between 1861 and 1865 quickly becoming a symbol of Paris.  Notably, to fans of the Broadway or musical theatre, Opera Garnier is also the setting for the popular musical Phantom of the Opera.

This image captures the pinnacle of the impressive south façade of the opera, taken with from the middle of Avenue de l’Opera.  Apollo holds high his lyre, flanked by poetry and music in a sculpture by Aime Millet.
